The ACDS TL Centre is delighted to see three new OLT National Teaching Fellowships in science in the recently announced OLT fellowships round (http://www.olt.gov.au/fellowships) .
Prof Adam Bridgeman, University of Sydney, will work on Personalising learning using diagnostic and success data for large cohorts. Adam is a leader in adaptive learning particularly in his large first year chemistry classes. He is currently a team leader in the chemistry standards project: Assessing the assessments: evidencing and benchmarking student learning outcomes in chemistry. In his fellowship, Adam he will develop a transition framework that can coordinate and integrate support and ensure skill development in large and flexible programmes.
Dr Kelly Matthews, University of Queensland, is exploring the student voice in curriculum design in her project Students as partners: reconceptualising the role of students in science degree programme curriculum development. Kelly has led and contributed to a number of major projects for science learning and teaching, notably the Quantitative Skill in Science project. Kelly’s fellowship will build on her work with the Bachelor of Science at the University of Queensland and the experience of others working with students in curriculum development in Australia and internationally.
Associate Professor Mauro Mocerino, Curtin University, is tackling the issue of professional development for laboratory demonstrators in his project: Enhancing learning in the laboratory: identifying and promoting best practice in the professional development of demonstrators. Mauro and his team won an OLT Award for Programs that Enhance Learning in 2013 for their evidence-based approach to professional development for demonstrators. Mauro’s fellowship will bring this exciting program to Science faculties across Australia.
