New funding opportunity for science and mathematics educators

We are excited to announce that the ACDS has launched a new project to create a repository of online resources for science teaching and assessment, and is providing funding to drive this development. 

This project will develop a mechanism for sharing resources across ACDS member institutions. It will provide funds to create a repository of curated remote teaching and assessment resources developed across Faculties of Science, particularly those resources that would benefit teachers and students of large mainstream subjects. 

We are seeking academics to lead this development in four broad discipline areas: chemistry, life sciences, mathematics and physics. Up to $10,000 are available to each discipline leader to establish a framework for this repository and to gather and curate current resources. 

Applications close on July 31.

Leadership in learning and teaching science in tertiary education

The ACDS has supported a project focused on leadership in learning and teaching in science in Australian Universities.

The skills successful students need for the 21st century such as critical thinking and innovation, map strongly to the pedagogies of science and mathematics teaching. Future leaders in learning and teaching in science and mathematics, require a knowledge base for embedding creative and innovative thinking, as well as the necessary skills required to effect transformation at the higher education level. Leadership in learning and teaching in higher education occurs across many levels. We are interested in leadership qualities in Australian academics, in science learning and teaching education.

Data from this survey will be used to develop an understanding about the skills required and the support needed for academic leaders in science learning and teaching, which may help the identification of professional development activities in the future.

Academics at any level and in any field of science, such as mathematics, chemistry, biology, anatomy, pharmacology, are welcome to participate.

ACSME 2020 - an impressive lineup of speakers

This year the Australian Conference on Science and Mathematics Education (ACSME) will be delivered online, but it is promising to be an exciting event nonetheless.

We have an impressive lineup of speakers to analyse and discuss our experiences with going into emergency remote teaching, and what it all means for the future of science and mathematics education. Check them out here.
