Case Studies of Successful WIL

March 29, 2017 Written by Jen Aughterson

The WIL in Science project has released its Case Studies of Successful WIL. These case studies come from the WIL Lighthouse projects from six Australian universities. The Lighthouse projects illustrate action to grow WIL at different stages of development of Faculty WIL programs. These case studies include descriptions of the projects, tips on what worked best and ideas for others using similar approaches.  The Lighthouse projects were sponsored by the ACDS WIL in Science project (2015 – 2016) and funded by the Office of the Chief Scientist.

See descriptions of the projects, along with key findings for the design, delivery and implementation for the following projects:

Intention and planning: Setting up Faculty WIL programs

  • Unifying WIL in Science at the University of Tasmania
  • Providing WIL across complex interconnected science degrees at Western Sydney University

Build and trial: Developing alternative approaches to WIL

  • Exploring alternate models for WIL in Science: Linking Work with Learning at the University of Queensland
  • Development of professional skills in science students through a work integrated learning honours stream at Monash University

Refine & expand: Extending WIL and building capacity for the future

  • Scaling-up Professional Experience Programs: developing a framework to support broad-based WIL at the University of Technology, Sydney
  • Learning to Work, Working to Learn: Curriculum design and teaching practice for WIL in the Natural and Physical Sciences at Deakin University
