Get Set for Success

August 12, 2015 Written by Liz Johnson

Get Set for Success introduces the GetSet diagnostic test for entry level University maths skills.  The GetSet test was developed at the University of Queensland for incoming engineering students and can be used to help students check their own level of understanding.  The test has a flexible format and can be adapted to other disciplines by contextualising questions and embedding within appropriate foundation subjects.

The initial OLT-funded project found that co-construction of the diagnostic test by mathematics teachers and engineering or science colleagues was a great prompt for productive collaboration.  This finding echoes work from the QS in Science extension project which used mapping of quantitative skills to stimulate discussion between mathematics and science academics.  It also builds on the work of the First Year in Maths network which brings together university educators in mathematics and statistics.

Why not start the conversation at your university?
